So much to talk about

January 17th, 2007

I'm no longer temping, I am a full member! :) I got (and accepted) an offer from the company I was on assignment with. They are a great group of people and I am very excited about being taken in.

I listened to the new episode of Skepticality today. If you do the RPG or LARP thing, I highly recommend it (I'll be writing a review for LARP Resources so I don't want to go into a lot of detail here).

I am also working on another article for LARP Resources and one or two for Sabre's Squirrel. IF I can get them all written, there will be plenty to stop in and read at the end of the month. I still maintain hopes of being able to start the podcasting thing one of these days. I'll get out there and price equipment soon. (And I get to sleep when?)

Is it time for my Saturday morning belly dance class?

It was great!

January 6th, 2007

I had my first class this morning. :) I had so much fun and managed to improve my traveling shimmy. *sigh* I can't wait till next week and another hour of class.

I have a new article for LARP Resources - a tutorial for coin hair sticks from Stormriver Tribal. I am excited to have a new article to post I just hope I can get more coming in so I have lots for people to read and a reason to keep coming back to my site!

With the new year I seem to have a renewed desire to research jewelry origins. I posted my question to 'Ask Yahoo' but the only answer I got doesn't even begin to be helpful. I may ask on tribe and see if I can get better results. (For the record, the question I posted was "From what culture does the slave bracelet originate?")

I am looking to add a new section to my online store called "Inspirations". The section will feature jewelry inspired by song, music, folklore, fiction, myths, gaming supplements and the like. I plan to make sure that these pieces are even more unique than what I currently design and I plan to give a little information about the inspiration that led to the design. Not sure how soon the first piece or set will be making its debut but it is something I am very excited about.

Spring Cleaning to start early

January 2nd, 2007

What can I say? I have this urge to do some major clearing out of stuff I don't use. A bit early for it but I feel like it's something I want to get done so I guess I'll work on it in little bits this week and maybe do a 'big chunk' of time on Sunday morning.

Starting to brainstorm about the new designs I plan to make (and post!) for spring. I have a few done but perhaps pawing thru my bead collection will spark off some great ideas. Also looking to run a sale soon (or maybe just put some older work on clearance) so keep checking back.

A little bummed out that I've not gotten any replies to my call for submissions for LARP Resources but I know it's not even been a month yet. I have a ton of ideas for articles if anyone out there actually reads my blogs and is interested in doing some writing. I plan to post a call for submissions for my Sabre's Squirrel site in March and let it run until the end of July. Since I seem to belong to more online belly dance communities I may actually get a better response (and leave me free to do some writing on my DW blog). A girl can hope anyway, right?

I was able to purchase my Geisha Moth Chameleon pants last night! :) Yes, it means an end to the eBay purchasing (hey, looking is free!) but I think it will prove to be worth it. Just think how awesome I will look dancing in them! (And dance class starts this Saturday...)

Got the new installment of the Rookie and listened to it today. I like how things are coming together, I just wish Scott would do a longer installment of the story before cutting to promos and phone calls. (*hint* *hint*)

Happy New Year!

January 1st, 2007

And so far, so good. :) I've done a touch of purchasing on eBay (a kuchi choker and a 12 yard skirt and it looks like I may get a pair of Geisha Moth's awesome Chameleon pants with green bell bottoms!) and will stop for a while (while I still have a good chunk of my Christmas $$ left). Yeah, I could keep shopping but I want to let things cool off a bit so I don't buy a bunch of stuff I don't really want.

For the new year, I'm hoping to have more good content (articles and the like) on both of my sites so that their ratings go up and people actually visit and contribute. It feels like a bit of a tall order but I think that if I can keep on it (even if it is only one article per site, per month, by me) others will either join in or help get the word out that my sites are there.

I'm not-so-patiently waiting for the documentation binder I won a few weeks back to get here. It's got historical info and patterns for LARP costuming and the research was done and put together by a retiring SCAdian for newbies. I thought it would be a great reference guide to have and I'm looking forward to adding new information to it (my additions will be available on LARP Resources under downloads; I won't be able to post the sheets I'm getting in the binder without permission.). I used 'contact seller' to request that the nice lady let me know when she shipped it so I can be on the look out for it but I've not gotten a response as of yet. Hopefully, the binder is on its way to me.

I'm looking forward to the start of the belly dance class I signed up for. The first one is Saturday morning at 9 am. I've taken dance classes before so I'm not nervous - just happy to finally be able to afford a class. :) If this one goes well (and I cannot think of why it shouldn't) then I may see about taking another one (if schedule and my budget permit) when this one ends.

I got my box!

December 19th, 2006

My box from my secret sis came today! I couldn't believe it when I opened it. A big box opened to a smaller box that opened to a sturdy cardboard envelope that yielded a leather looking box. Inside the innermost box was a wealth of cool gifts and a cute Christmas card with stylized dogs and cats. So what all did I get? A blue bumper sticker that reads "Belly dancer on board Vehicle may shimmy without warning", a pair of red, blue and white seed and bugle bead earrings (these will look awesome with anything I wear them with!), a stunning necklace that looks to be old metal, glass, ceramic and horn beads (and will go great with either my tribal fusion belly dance costuming or my LARP garb), a lightweight kuchi dangle with bells that makes an awesome sound and a belled kuchi bracelet with colored glass 'gems' set into it (it also makes a great sound). It is all lovely and thoughtful and I hope to post pictures soon so everyone can see.

The sis I drew received her gift envelope yesterday per the USPS website. I don't know if she's opened it or not but I hope I brought her as much joy as my own sis brought me. :)

I got a new Rookie episode waiting for me tomorrow (it's here now but I'm about ready for bed so I'll listen to it tomorrow morning when I get to work). Not sure if it's game time again so soon or if it's a bit more storyline (which is starting to pick up nicely) but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
